Space Shuttle Endeavor Final Launch Delayed

The final voyage of the space shuttle Endeavor has been delayed:

Update, 1:15 p.m. ET: NASA reports that the launch of space shuttle Endeavour will be delayed until at least Monday.

Space shuttle Endeavour, NASA's youngest orbiter, was scheduled blast off into space for the final time at 3:47 pm EST Friday, marking the next-to-last scheduled launch of the shuttle program, but liftoff was delayed due to technical issues.

According to the AP, Commander Mark Kelly and his crew were on their way to the launch pad, when NASA halted the countdown. The heaters on one of the ship's power units failed about four hours before liftoff.

I was looking forward to watching this final lift off of the Endeavor but will have to wait a little longer. I am keeping track of the final mission of each shuttle because I watched the launch of each way back in the beginning of the space shuttle program. I hope this will not be the end of manned space travel but a change into a better and new form of human space travel, but I am not holding my breath. Luck to us all!

Science Fiction Short Stories

If you enjoy reading science fiction and short stories you are in luck because there is a wonderful website entitled Daily Science Fiction that has a wealth of creative and interesting stories in the Sci Fi and Fantasy genre. The most recent story the website published is called "Trust" written by David D. Levine. This is exactly the type of dystopian story I enjoy reading: the details are graphic and in places become very painful and sad to read. It is the tale of a family forced to live in a tent in a camp with other people in the same situation due to a natural disaster, subsequent food shortages, and describes how this one particular family copes with the situation. It is well written, moving, and I feel a reflection of our difficult economic times. As quoted from the author himself:

"I wrote this story at the Taos Toolbox workshop taught by Walter Jon Williams, prompted by the sad state of the world both politically and environmentally. It was a hard story to write and many people find it a hard story to read. I hope it makes people think."

Wow! You can read the entire story HERE.
